The textile shower curtain fabric is 100% free of plastic. Before being sewn into a shower curtain the fabric is mechanically impregnated through and through with wax in an environmentally respectful process.

The shower curtain is manufactured by hand in Germany to the highest quality standards, in compliance with social and craftmanship standards set by government (REACH) and trade unions.

The impregnation has self-repairing abilities and lasts for a long time, if you make sure that the shower curtain can always dry well and avoid standing in water or is permanently sticking to something like the bathtub. This makes the shower curtain very suitable for floor-level walk-In showers. During this time you will have a really environmentally friendly textile shower curtain that looks good and develops an individual patina.

Eco friendly textile shower curtain care instructions

As with any textile shower curtain, it is important to let it hang freely to dry after each use.

This eco friendly textile shower curtain is ideal for floor-level walk-In showers with floor heating.

Especially with cotton shower curtains, the care and cleaning are decisive for long life and a beautiful patina.

The waxed cotton fabric is water-repellent. However, oils, soaps, and other chemical additives found in bathing liquids and shampoos, can damage the surface over time if not properly rinsed off

Shower curtain cleaning in general

This eco friendly textile shower curtain is designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Because most shower curtain soiling is caused by limescale deposits and the fabric is through and through impregnated the DUWAX does not need to be washed at all or washing in the washing machine does not help much. Avoid unnecessary washing in the washing machine and remove soiling with citric acid a soft brush or sponge.

Detergents should be used sparingly as they wash out the impregnation of the shower curtain fabric. We have had the best experiences with citric acid, and not only when cleaning environmentally friendly textile shower curtains made of waxed cotton. Citric acid is also used to dress salads and is probably the most environmentally friendly way to clean any shower curtain. Simply spray the shower curtain and spread with a sponge or soft brush with citric acid. Wait and rinse off. Done. Heavier soiling dissolves almost by itself when you put the shower curtain in a bucket with more or less pure citric acid.

Citric acid is available in liquid or powder form. When using powder, make sure it is sufficiently concentrated. Citric acid dilutes too much when you wash the eco friendly textile shower curtain in the washing machine. Cleaning is more effective if you wash the shower curtain by hand.

If the textil shower curtain fabric has black stains (mould stains), we recommend Dr. Beckmann's stain remover against fruit and vegetable stains. Or any cleaner containing chlorine. Rub the product into the black areas of the shower curtain fabric with a little water and leave to work for approx. half an hour. As with all textiles, the textile shower curtain can no longer be saved once the stains have been absorbed into the fabric.

DUWAX eco friendly textile shower curtain fabric impregnation

The textile shower curtain fabric is impregnated through and through and also woven so tightly that no water can run through. Even if the wax surface is no longer 100 per cent waterproof, the fabric remains impermeable to water because the fibres swell. The shower curtain impregnation can be refreshed with an iron or impregnating agent for waxed textiles, e.g. for waxed jackets and bags. When ironing the shower curtain please without steam, use very low heat and place a cloth or baking paper underneath to protect the ironing board.
